... I know what you mean. I would've had to work 8 years to make what I made today at my first job out of college. Crazy yes, but it's America!
I think my first job, at 16 was paying $3.65/hour. During summers, 80 hour weeks. Hard work and enjoyable. Greenhouse vegetable production. Worked for a Japanese family in the Salinas valley. Great first job experience. Stayed there about 3 years; then, joined the Army out of high school. Had no where else to go; and, I had extremely high grades and SAT scores. Military was a second great experience.
I remember managing a service station for many years. Good pay, but long hours, and all holidays. Had many customers come in during the holidays just to give big tips (thanks) to the few of us working.
Today, was at a buffet and accidentally spilt a glass of water. The server was right on top of it. She was most kind and professional. About 5 mins. later, she had a minor dropsy of her own. Her day was not looking bright. I left her a $20 tip and the $9 tab, wished her a good day.
