The December Ethanol futures contract expires tomorrow. It closed at $2.16/gal but the January contract, which becomes the front month starting this Thursday, closed at a mere $1.74 or $0.42 lower than the December contract. So it looks like the front month price will be taking a big hit this Thursday.
I don't understand the reason behind the huge Dec/Jan futures price discrepency or it's implications for the spot market in the coming weeks.
