INH, thanks for sharing your insights. I think that micro-trends are primarily behavior driven, while macro trends, over years, are more to do with fundamentals. And, I also think that biotechs are perhaps more telling of investors' feeling and emotions than other sectors. Just a feeling ;)

Macro trends (over years), most definitely will favor fundamentals; although, I have seen many a small cap muddle along for years, decades; without earnings or promise of any.

I believe the reason for biotechs being more emotionally driven is due to so many lacking basic financial fundamentals, and relying on potential future earnings. Like CTIX, many biotechs have no current revenues, and it is very subjective concerning furture earnings or revenues. Revenues, earnings, and growth being main drivers of most ongoing concern company valuations.

I think one main grey area for valuations of biotechs has to do with potential competition. Safety and efficacy being more obvious variables. Seems like there is much new technology being pushed through pipelines. A good thing for civilization. Just look at ebola, who would have thought that there were so many contenders for potential vaccines, remedies, cures -- and not just in the U.S.
