I have heard that Vendit took it one step further and put a redirect into his profile either here or on Silicon Investor or both. I do not know which and I do not know if this is true. It is just something that I have heard.
Redirects should not be allowed by anyone.
Also, this calls into question a graphic automatically loading when viewing a thread.
Right. I accept the fact that Ihub can log my IP address anytime I access the site, but third parties should not be able to.
I can see your point. I can't think of many sites where this isn't possible, though. iHub does it. SI does it.
Personally, I'd prefer that we set it up so users can choose to include graphics in their posts but each user has an option to toggle them on and off if they're that concerned about fetching a link and having their IP addy anonymously logged.
someone who puts graphics into their thread ... will also be able to log the IP address that accesses the graphics
*May* be able to log IP addresses. While some perceive no danger, there is no good reason for an ihub user to trace another user's address. The only good reason I can imagine for doing so is to have specific hacking targets.
In fact, it wouldn't be hard to write a web application that immediately starts probing a computer for weakness as soon as it's served a file and grabbed an address.
