#19038 RE: sarai #19029

You seem to have read the post to which you are responding this time, good show, that's the way to start ... still, like i say i won't have much time for political chat this week, so don't hold your breath waiting for reply

The only reason for the state to dictate one language as 'official' is to insult another ... english is used throughout the US as the one common language, this is unlikely to change, and is the reason all immigrants including hispanos learn english as fast as they can

There is no cost imposed on you as a ratepayer by the absence of such a Diktat, as you have tried to suggest several times

Britain, where english was developed, has no law dictating its use .... somehow though, when you go there you just naturally find lots of english, and when you go to get your driving license they never ever speak to you in swahili .... although they can, and might well do on request, they certainly speak a great deal of all european languages, arabic, cantonese, mandarin, japonese, etc etc ..... i guess they just never got around to legislating these others as distasteful, eh

A discussion of the concept of legality in re this issue would begin with the slaver Moses Austin and his son Steven, it would be lengthy, mucho typing, sorry i have no time .... typed in plenty of detail for you before, there are many leads for search terms, if you are interested you can learn - ¡aprovéchatelo!

There are in México about ninety languages commonly spoken .... of these, after spanish and english, the dialects of maya such as ch'ol and tzeltal, and the tongue of the azteca which is called náhuatl, are the ones most thriving, undergoing something of a renaissance, particularly the latter in recent years, as a facet of artist community in el DF .... the man who introduced me to my wife was one of many involved in deciphering the maya glyphs, this was substantially completed only about five years ago

Spanish is the one that is pan-mexicano, just as english is pan-US ... simply makes practical sense, in both cases, no Diktat from the federales required .... and in México it develops into a unique form, just as US nationals and canucks and kiwis each speak an english of their own, mexicanos make use of many terms and expressions from the indian tongues, and from english - just as in the US and Canada we have incorporated many mexicanismos into english, it works the other way as well ...... some of this irritates the spanish from Spain, a fact we find rather amusing ... in this diccionario of mexicanismos, probably the best one online, there are 77,000 unique entries - http://www.academia.org.mx/dbm/principal.htm
