Thanks. That is what I thought. It would be less confusing if folks would stick with either normal or wild-type. It can be confusing if you don't know the terms are interchangeable.

Wild-type = normal. Mutant is having a mutation in the gene that produces the p53 protein. The result of different mutations are varied, and discussed in the papers, but overall if the gene is mutated, then the protein produced by the gene will be different, and will not function the same. In many cases, mutations in p53 can cause cancer (50% of cancers have a mutation in p53).
