Re: It's not so amazing considering the lowest 4 out of 6 Sempron models are under $100. Their asp used to be $60-70 in the K7 days.

Are you mathematically challenged? Show me a scenario where AMD could have a <$100 ASP, based on the 4/6 Semprons that are $64-95. Their single core Athlons range from $115 to $343, their X2 chips are $303 to $645, and their FX chips are $827 to $1031.

Let's not even count the lucrative Opteron market for a moment, and consider the following scenario.

Sempron volumes at 50%
Athlon 64 volumes at 30%
Athlon X2 volumes at 9%
Athlon FX volumes at 1%

Would you agree that this is probably a conservative mix??

Let's also assume that the mix is very heavily weighted towards the low end. In other words, we will pick the average from the lower 80% of the range.

Sempron ASP at $70
Athlon 64 ASP at $160
Athlon X2 ASP at $370
Athlon FX ASP at $870

If you calculate the average ASP based on the conservative mix, you come up with 70*.5 + 160*.3 + 370*.09 + 870*.01, which equals $125.

So either our conservative mix estimate isn't nearly conservative enough (Sempron >>50% of sales?!?), or AMD is *deeply* discounting their products.
