brainlessone: They must be solid; a long history of dividend payments, [frequent] increases, never decreases]. Not a high yield because the stock has dropped precipitously: what good is a 5% yield if the stock drops 50%? And the work that must be done to ascertain the financials is massive...and even then, the numbers are suspect. The accountants are important. I'd prefer a smaller firm, none of these Big Seven (are there still 7?) who will play footsie-games with management to keep those hefty fees rolling in.
