#13399 RE: Hoople #13392

Spoiler * * * * * * * *

What I did like about Crash was the acting. Terrence Howard was a treat, Matt Dillon was sensational, hell, give them all a round of applause. The story got a message across and I think that is what inspired the Academy to award it best picture. After having seen Crash now about 3 or 4 times, I can see where both sides of this argument are coming from.

I have mentioned too many of my friends that I really liked Crash when I first saw it and how powerful of a film that it was. I remember sitting on a flight and watching the DVD, this was my second time viewing. I recall saying to my wife and Mother that I thought they could have did without intertwining so much of the story. For example, they didn’t need to connect the cop killing Don Cheadle’s brother. I think they stretched it out too much in the movie to give it that unrealistic feel at moments. So I can see where Hoople is going with some of her feelings on this.

I am willing to overlook that part of it; I also have to agree with Susie and say that anger will make you do some of the craziest things, sometimes without regard. In this case Sandra was going through that type of anger/moment and yelling obscenely because she didn’t care. She felt they would pay someone to replace the lock the next day regardless and her acting foolish on the spur of the moment wasn’t going to change that fact. She was simply acting on impulse in my opinion, which people do every day.

Of the movies that were listed for Best Picture, I can definitely see why the Academy picked that one, I would have too. I don’t think the other movies nominated offered enough storyline, but rather acting instead. They voted on best picture, not best acting and in my opinion out of those choices Crash probably wins with Capote or Brokeback a close second. Crash would have made my top five picks for this year at this point, but would not have won Best Picture.

In no way at all do I think the movie was a disgrace, but I can see both sides of the story on this current debate.
