I think you are grossly overestimating the amount of surgeons that still want to do bedside laparoscopic procedures. That market is shrinking by the day.
The surgeon can be right next to the patients bed and he can also be scrubbed in using SPORT if that makes u feel better but he will be off his feet and not so tired . The sport is mobile remember. Even with the da vinci the surgeon can still be close to the patient and scrubbed in. With the surgibot he still have to touch the controls just like sport or da vinci. IMHO all surgeons should be scrubbed in and ready to go just in case something goes wrong with using da vinci/sport or surgibot.
The surgeon is only minutes away from getting scrubbed in! In fact the patient is never alone and with out some one- a surgical tech /PA/nurse already scrubbed and with access to a trocar port or a minute away from creating one. In the case of telemedicine, or remote surgery, the facts are the same.
Let's reserve the hysteria to the people that are in the OR everyday and clinically understand the dynamics.this is not cyber surgery today. Maybe one day it might be SUV has like cases limited to the battlefield or remote areas that don't support or have access to full time surgeon
I have converted laparoscopic cases to open and I have davinci robotic cases to open. It takes the same amount of time to gain access to the abdominal cavity. It's not debatable as to what's safer because facts are facts. You're peace of mind is derived from limited knowledge and speaking to and trusting the opinion of other surgeons who I bet are older than 45.
