Basser> The dollar has been collapsing

while AG cuts his green.

He is in deep trouble.

IMHO he is insane, or close to it now.

He is attempting to prop up his falling bubble.

Once he goes, we can talk about recovery.

Fed...

Are you familiar with the old C&W tune, "If You Got The Money, Honey, I've Got The Time?

Greenspan appears to be in the enviable position of having both.

I believe that, barring sudden death, Sir Alan will remain at his station until his term expires and then he will graciously decline Bush's nomination to "serve his country" (LOL!) for another term.

AG's declination, of course, will be worked out well in advance as I don't think there's any chance that GWB would offer it otherwise. Exiting stage left in the spotlight's glare might one of the perks for AG's years of being a team player.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Take care,
Dan

federal reserves...

Greenspan is hardly insane. I have said a number of times here that the Greenspan Gambit is the only possible solution that could prevent serious recession and potential deflation. It is a very rational move for him, indeed the only move that could negate his mismanagement of the Fed to date - if only for a while. Of course that is the problem, even if it works, it will only set up new distortions in the economy that are worse than before.
