In our family, we all worked, brothers had paper routes and they both had lawn mowing and snow shoveling jobs depending on the season. I also did babysitting. Mom was a clerk in a department store, dad worked in manufacturing.
At 16 I got a job in the bakery department at the A&P with a nice raise, the only bad thing was after the store closed, crawling into the display cases and cleaning the glass using ammonia and water.
The only people I dislike are those who lie, cheat and defraud the system.
I learned the Vet bartender at our AL Post works only for tips but makes an ave of $100 a day which he admitted he doesn't report. He is on military disability and gets a pension. But you should see him play golf and tennis! On top of that, he has an 11 year old daughter, never married the mother. But she gets $750 a month in benefits! She lives with her mother and gets benefits until she is 18.
I call that scamming the system and wonder how many more there are like him. We have become a nation of parasites.
