Three people were killed yesterday afternoon in a Pasadena neighborhood, resulting in a standoff between the gunman and police before he surrendered without any further incident. The incident has been described as a landlord-tenant dispute.

So far only one of the victims killed have been identified, Maria Teresa Aguiar, 59, of Pasadena. The other two fatalities were men, and another man and woman were injured in the rampage, according to the LA Times [ http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-pasadena-victim-identified-20140713-story.html ].

The first shots were heard around 4:20 p.m on the 1700 block of North Summit Avenue. The gunman was reported to have chased two people down the block, fatally shooting one and injuring the other with a semiautomatic rifle. Another man was killed when a neighbor that is being called a "good Samaritan" approached a house after hearing gunshots, and was shot on the driveway, police told the LA Times [ http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-at-least-one-killed-in-pasadena-shooting-police-said-20140712-story.html ].

When police responded to the scene, the gunman opened fire on officers who went to the aid of one of the victims on the ground. He then barricaded himself inside a residence, and called 911. A hostage negotiator was able to convince the gunman, John Izael Smith, 44, to surrender to police.

Authorities have yet to elaborate on the details, but CBS 2 [ http://laist.com/2014/07/13/losangeles.cbslocal.com/2014/07/12/at-least-3-dead-in-pasadena-shooting/ ] is reporting that Smith was the tenant of Aguiar. Smith shared a residence with Aguiar and Aguiar's father.
