Lots of discussion about China in US today is very similar to discussion about Japan in 80s, mainly because of fast rise of two large economies some naturally felt threatened: they didn't play by the same rule we play. There are cultural differences between Asian countries and US/EU, that gap can't be closed if ever in 20 years. Japan was a trailblazer, a model several other Asian countries copied successfully. The good news for those who copied that model is Japan has also showed limitation of that model. I am fairly confident or at least I hope that others will at least try to avoid.

According to both the economist and FT , two sources I read regularly, the emphasis in China will from now on be shifted from an export model/policy toward a more inward, consumer oriented direction.

That perhaps will give a extra kick to your theme because a more consumer oriented policy will play right into the hand of the demographic shift you have been extolling for so long.
