The average American does not relise property is never owned "free and clear" in a property tax state. You have the right of "use" and income derived from the property. In Houston a owner can expect to pay 3% of the value yearly in property taxes. So, next year I could not tell you what the "rent" to the government will be.

I get a kick out of someone saying " I own it outright and no one can take it from me". I've explained it a few time but the owner never understands and think I am a flake. You and I can understand the true story. In Texas, no real estate is truly owned by the people. The myth continues.
