The Bronze plans have a $5,000 deductible. After that the insured pays roughly 40% of the cost of services until they reach $6,250 total out of pocket (including the deductible). All preventive care is free. Before Obamacare, insurance companies would confuse customers with these provisions by hiding in small print that the OOP didn't include the deductible (i.e. their total out-of-pocket expense in this example would have been $11,250). They can't do that anymore. An OOPM is exactly what it means - the maximum you pay out-of-pocket in one year.

The lowest cost Bronze Plan was "an option" they just chose not to take it.

The maximum deductible on the Enhanced Silver plan is $1,500 for any one person and 3,000 for all family members combined but only applies if/when you are hospitalized. All other services only have co-pays and again, preventive care is free (yes "free" - ask me if I care that some billionaire has to pay a little more tax for that). The deductible and co-pay assistance increases as your income goes down. A family of four (45 y/o dad, 42 y/o mom + 2 kids under 18) making $38,000/year would have a $500 individual deductible and $1,000 for all family members combined and again it only applies to hospitalization. At $34,000/year the deductible goes away entirely. Doctor visits and lab tests have a $15 copay. The OOPM for any individual would be $2,250 or $4,500 for the whole family. The premium at this level for the entire family would be $136/mo. Without the premium assistance from Obamacare, this plan would cost the family $737/mo
