KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2001--
New Production Fund Allows Magellan To Make 2 to 4 Films A Year RENNIE'S LANDING World Premiere at Seattle Film Festival
Magellan Filmed Entertainment, Inc. (OTCBB:MFLE) announced they are in negotiations for financing their 2001 slate of films. While the exact figure has not been disclosed, Magellan CEO Pat Charles stated that the production-financing fund is mid-seven figures and was arranged by California investment banker Richard Alan Ladd. The production fund, along with additional financing from other investment partners and distributors, will enable Magellan to plan to produce 2 to 4 pictures a year in the $2 to $10 million-dollar range. Magellan has already established itself as an innovative independent film production and finance company with its flagship project RENNIE'S LANDING. Funded entirely by an innovative public offering, the film was directed by Steven Spielberg protege Marc Fusco who co-wrote with Michael Garrity. RENNIE'S LANDING stars Peter Facinelli (THE BIG KAHUNA, RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS), Ethan Embry (CAN'T HARDLY WAIT, EMPIRE RECORDS, THAT THING YOU DO), Charlotte Ayanna (BLUE IGUANA) and Scott Foley ("Felicity," SCREAM 3). Distributed internationally by Franchise Pictures, Jim Steele is representing the picture domestically. RENNIE'S LANDING will make its world premiere June 15 in competition at the Seattle Film Festival. Magellan's current slate includes: FIRST YOU DREAM THEN YOU DIE, written by Franco Ferrini (ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA), Enrico Medioli (THE DAMNED) and Francisco Lucente (CEO of Canada's Pioneer Pictures, who will co-produce). The film is based on historical allegations tying famous Hitchcock scriptwriter Cornell Woolrich to a series of grisly serial killings in New York during the 1930's. Set for a late-summer production start in Europe, the project will be financed through a mix of equity investments, foreign subsidies and presales with Magellan's Tony Romano and Michel Shane producing. Comedy veteran Michael Ian Black, currently seen on NBC's hit show "Ed," has written and will helm his offbeat comedy THE PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY for Magellan in early summer. Project will reunite Michael Garrity and Marc Fusco as producers; Mike Gabrawy joins them in this effort. Magellan's Romano and Shane will produce FIVE STONES with partner Progressive Pop LLC and co-producer Ellen Endo Dizan. Scribe/director Jeffrey Kramer calls the indigenous Hawaiian story "an epic journey into love;" it is set to shoot in Hawaii this fall. Most recently, Magellan has set up CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, based on the best selling autobiography of notorious con man Frank Abignale, at Dreamworks SKG. Production is scheduled to start early in the fall and is rumored to have Leonardo di Caprio attached.
