DEFINITELY A THIEF.

Hmmmm. It looks like you got your definitions from the Cox cable site. That's a fair place to look. On the CableTheft.com site it defines passive theft as:

Passive Theft means having active cable service in your residence without notifying the cable operator. (Example: You move into a new apartment that has active service but you do not notify the cable operator.)

As I stated earlier, I did notify them and they told me not to worry about it.

Which I don't.

You, however, are free to worry about it all you want.

Cable television may not have been installed, but you clearly said you were hooked up through the cable for net service.

Yup. And, like I said, I notified them that they were not filtering their cable channels. Moreover, when I disconnected my cable modem and went to DSL (because of the crappy service they provided) they still did not halt the cable signal.

Neuro:Yup. The prisons are probably filled to the brim with "illegal" cable viewers these days.

Quasi: There have been at least six criminal prosecutions in Kentucky for the offense. So the answer to your question is "yes".

Six whole prosecutions? It won't be long until KY has all those cable thieves locked up. Of course they'll probably have to let a few murderers and rapists out early to make room but it could happen...

lol.

And yes (Spall), they CAN very easily detect unauthorized connections to the lines by measuring the circuit values from the dropbox.

Where do you get this BS from? I think you have cable signals confused with electrical signals. Analog cable signals aren't transmitted in a circuit... they are transmitted in channels.

The gradual changeover to digitalized service will make most of this a thing of the past, since it will allow greater specificity in what any one cabledrop carries. It will also allow the central cable office to know exactly what everyone on their system is tuned to at any particular instant.

Sorry but not all digital systems allow for this degree of monitoring and control. Besides, in most cases one can simply piggyback on another line and fool any back end system into thinking they are the ligitimate users.
