The "Religious Right" as a political movement is over a decade old, proceeding Newt's Contract w/America...Today, they are essentially the stringpullers for the Republican Party. The Religious or Christian Right is a MAJOR force in American politics today.
Personally, I find intolerance of homosexuals, and others, to be very un-Judeo-Christian. I think their political arm or agenda dances on the edge of Separation of Church & State, if not breaching it entirely. And altho I'm sure many, many fine people share the fundamentalist Christian belief, there are many, many theo-political factions and operators within the group (or hiding behind Christianity as a group), and they have achieved enormous political power...
