We now know Washington went for years of torment within himself on the issue of slavery, on his death he made a dramatic statement.
He became only the 2nd Virginian to free all his slaves on his death.
He ALSO gave sufficient heritance to all to start a new life.
And went so far as to find places they could go work as free men.
This we must respect, i believe, regardless that he withheld his final statement on slavery until his death.
