Obviously because it would be worth it to you or you wouldn't. Carbon Credits have different quality ratings and the highest rated CC's are on the Gold Standard. Companies purchase CC's a year or two at time a with cash. That cash is gone, like with no recourse should something happen to the issuing company. If that were to happen, those credits you just bought would no longer be offsets, so you paid all that money and received nothing.
