i can also recall eating field corn raw out of the fields in iowa when visiting relatives there as a kid. so good it didn't have to even be sweet corn. some heritage sweet corn seeds are still available, but due to open pollination most are tainted with genetics designed to maximize high fructose concentrations and the "chords" of flavor are long gone.

even the raccoons don't seem to like it as much.
