What to Look For

ALPINE SKIING WOMEN'S GIANT SLALOM Anja Paerson of Sweden won a silver and a bronze medal in Salt Lake City and two bronze in Turin before claiming her first gold Wednesday in the slalom. Another medal would give Paerson, left, six in her Olympic career, tying her with her rival Janica Kostelic of Croatia for the most among women in Alpine skiing history. Kostelic is ill and is unlikely to compete. The Austrians may also contend; in all eight Alpine skiing events, an Austrian man or woman has won a medal.

CURLING MEN The United States will try to win its first Olympic curling medal when it faces a British team from Scotland for the bronze. Canada will play Finland for the gold. Curling is the No. 2 sport in Canada, behind hockey. More than 94 percent of the world's curlers live there, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Company. But Canada has won only one curling gold — the women's in 1998.

SPEEDSKATING MEN'S 10,000 METERS Chad Hedrick is in, but Shani Davis is out. Davis, who won a gold medal in the 1,000, ceded his spot to his United States teammate Charles Leveille yesterday. Hedrick, who won a gold in the 5,000, holds the world record in the 10,000, a 6.2-mile, 25-lap race that takes nearly 13 minutes.
