techanalyst1: A rally based on momentum [whatever that is] and short covering is still a rally. Short covering is comparable to long buying; the effect is the same. The only difference is that the short covering may be to protect profits or limit losses while the long-buying is by those who are looking to sell at a higher price than they paid. A buy is a buy is a buy.
