In and around St Louis and central IL, they actually call it Sodie Pop.

the phrase, "get yourself a sodie" is used more often than the normal American citizen can handle.

Cleveland, OH its called Pop.
Atlant, GA is called Soda.
St Louis, Mo is Sodie Pop.

I have lived in all three and I just call it gross. I'll stick to water coffee and beer.
