I was just attempting to point out a conservative shorting strategy. Going short is a tool not just a religion.
Lets say you have a large gain in a stock you also want to keep long term, but you expect a drop in the market or a temporary drop in the stock. Why sell and pay taxes? You can hedge your position or a part of your position to protect gains.
If you don't like the stock, I agree you should sell and go into T-bills.
