i think we are starting to see stagnation of innovation in the pc market because of lack of strong competition.

Try walking into Best Buy. Relative to a year ago, I see the following:

- Many new 2-in-1 devices with innovative conversion mechanisms
- Touch is nearly ubiquitous
- Majority of desktops now All-in-Ones, and most of those are touch enabled
- Some All-in-ones have handles and battery packs, allowing you to take them from room to room, and use them like a giant tablet
- Even standard non-convertible laptops are thinner and lighter than before
- Displays have vastly improved
- Almost all devices have SSD's or SSD caches
- The specs have vastly improved at $499-699 price points
- Android tablets have been moved to and buried inside the phone section - meanwhile, the PC shelf space has expanded

All very nice improvements, in my mind. The PC's are vastly more compelling than a year ago. I think the average end-user would call that pretty dramatic "innovation".
