That is a mistake that Otellini will regret for the rest of his life, despite his comfortable retirement. He will forever be remembered as the Intel CEO who missed mobile, the one who didn't have the vision.

This is despite, of course, doing some very wonderful things with PCCG and DCG. I'll be frank with you - I very much liked Paul and enjoyed listening to him on conference calls/investor presentations. Despite his one (huge) strategic flaw, he was a smart guy and if he weren't so close to mandatory retirement, he may not have chosen to retire "early" and could have fixed this.

But there's no sense crying over this, as there is no sense for me to lament Intel's missed goals in mobile during 2013 and the contra revenue during 2014. All that matters now is what current management does to deliver shareholder value and to right the ship.

The potential is there and BK seems to understand this. I think he'll unlock it and finally break the "curse" that has plagued Intel for roughly 10 years now.

Time will tell.
