A shorter way would be to right-click "Tools" in the top menu, select "Open in New Window", then select "My Filters" on that screen, then click the "Filters Currently Enabled" link to toggle it to "Disabled".

Then you can return to the previous window, do whatever you need to do message-wise, then go to the other window and toggle your filters back on.

That's why that link exists at the top of that page. To make it easy to turn all filtering on and off with a single click rather than having to selectively filter/unfilter people.
