FFFC Huge 19 Million U.S. Marijuana Smokers and This Number Continues to Increase.

Medical cannabis (or medical marijuana) refers to the use of cannabis and its constituent cannabinoids, such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), as medical therapy to treat disease or alleviate symptoms.

Medical cannabis can be administered by a variety of routes, including vaporizing or smoking dried buds, eating extracts, and taking capsules. Synthetic cannabinoids are available as prescription drugs in some countries, examples include; dronabinol, available in the United States and Canada, and nabilone, available in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Medical cannabis has several potential beneficial effects. Cannabinoids can serve as appetite stimulants, antiemetics, antispasmodics, and have some analgesic effects, may be helpful in treating chronic non-cancerous pain, or vomiting and nausea caused by chemotherapy. The drug may also aid in treating symptoms of AIDS patients.

At present in the US, the FDA has approved two oral cannabinoids for use as methods of treatment: dronabinol and nabilone. In The US and Canada, Nabilone, under the trade name ‘Cesamet’, can be used for treating nausea of vomiting associated with chemotherapy, which conventional medicine has not been able to treat. Dronabional, under the trade name ‘Marinol’ has the same licensing indicators as Nabilone, and is also licensed to be used for patients suffering with anorexia due to AIDS related weight loss.

Marijuana sales, and the sales of peripheral products associated with marijuana, will be the largest consumer market in recent American business history. The marijuana legalization process will eventually reach into every corner of America including the Federal Government. The Drug Enforcement Agency has 11,000 employees and a budget of $2.7 billion last year (www.justice.gov). With that many employees and that large of a budget it will be difficult for the Federal Government to exclude marijuana as a controlled substance

When Colorado and Washington legalized the recreational use of marijuana a few months ago, many publicly traded companies saw the writing on the wall and started to immerse themselves into cannabusiness. Companies that formerly were mining, medical, investment or tech enterprises started to reallocate their resources to the marijuana industry.
