Doug, some people have this illusion that Itanium 2 is much harder than x86-64. In the beginning, this might have been the case (new architecture, complex scheduling, etc). Today, most of the heavy lifting has been done, and the only barrier to porting software is code that isn't friendly to 64-bits, and this affects x86-64 as much as Itanium architecture. In the end, there is no net advantage in x86-64.
