My speculation is that those two clowns were the puppets. Its whoever brought them in that may have been trying to steal the technology. It all may have seemed too easy... Industrial sabotage leading to forced bankruptcy. Steal the assets and wipe out existing shareholders. Then come back with an IPO and road show to rake in multi-millions. Thanking my lucky stars that Mr. Wesson blew the whistle, and Heddle came in with support.

Criminal might have been a better term choice.
