Doug, that is true, Itanium does seem to be a niche product. More than scientific work, though, because HPQ is moving their customer base for workstations and non-stop servers to Itanium. So Itanium will have a high-price niche, competing with Sun and IBM. (Yes, IBM does have Itanium machines, but they seem to be treating it like a check list item since they want to be a one-stop shop for large corporations and government. They'll support Opteron for the same reason. They will direct customers to their own solutions as much as they can.)
