I'd rather hear about a first shipment to a different textile producer. Warwick is going to be for the extremely high tech stuff.
I dont think you will see that shipment for a few months yet. The reason warwick is the target of shipments is because they are willing to take smaller amounts, while we build up the farm.
There is something to be said about set up costs of machinery. For a company to set up their weaving to weave up 100 pounds of silk could be detrimental to the other operations in the pipeline.
As much as everyone wants to change the meaning of his words, the man said "years".
I dont think you can change the meaning of "years" But when that statement was made I inquired about it. I was told that the statement was accurate but it was intended for the high tech market( as you said) and that mundane fabric would not take years.
This makes total sense. They need to try different things to make a high tech item.
But can you give me any reason at all why it would take years to weave monstersilk into a fabric?
Warwick can weave silk in one day if they wanted to, but do they want to?
If you had a high tech fiber and wanted to market it would you just make dresses out of it, or would you try to capitalize on a higher tech item, for the higher costs?
Look at it this way.
If Kim wanted silk dresses he would not have gone through the process to genetically manipulate a silk worm.
He would have just made silk.
That would be a losing plan.
So he tries to get MS out on the market in a higher tech arena.
Defining "Mundane", I could see the fiber used in a situation like the latest UA deal.
That would be very lucrative and use 100% MS.
It would get some of it out in the world, but you will not see MS on store shelves any time soon, if ever.
Just like you wont find Kevlar or carbon nanotubes on a store shelf.
It is not intended for the home sewing hobbyist
I think the best hope for a rapid rise in SP is either news on Big Red
As for BR, I would not release any info on it until MS was in production. Why would you try to negotiate a deal for a fiber while releasing the details of a better fiber?
By doing so you lose the ability to sell MS.
Tide detergent does not release "New and improved Tide", prior to the mundane Tide.
First, you sell the item, and then make the better product available, at a higher price.
Does anyone really believe that it can happen this year? If so please outline the time frame for me because I'd love to believe it.
Yes.
For the sake of argument I am not going to discuss the possibilities of WHO only the HOW, and use the current rumor as the target.
Consider we started in Nov with commercial production.
We get warwick to test weave MS into a "mundane" fabric.
We already have test results for MS so we need no testing.
We make a few shirts and take them to Innovation parks sales department, who uses their pull and the university name to get in the door of Underarmor.
They like what they see and negotiate a deal with the university.
Warwick can now weave tons into fabric for football uniforms.
Those tons will not be needed prior to May of this year.
The commercial start up is 20K worms, of which 5000 pair are allowed to breed. This produces 1.5M worms. (1.5 tons of silk)
Reserve 50K worms for "seeding", and weave the first ton into sample uniforms, and various swatches of different weaves.
Use the 50K worms left to seed the farm with 5K eggs a week for 5 weeks.
By the end of March the farm is able to produce 1.5 tons a week.
Warwick is able to weave the MS into fabric in April
UA receives their first few tons in May which allows them time to process the fabric into the needed uniforms by July.
We are earning money by Mid year with metric quantity's by mid year as stated.
This is just 1 way of how it could be done.
You have to remember there is no way to know when the process started or what order things are done in. We had silk from the PP and I would expect a deal like the UA deal to require many different weaves to decide which fit best into the product.
One thing is for sure... Nobody can give you an example or reason of how or why it CANT be done.
Barring the company not working or being a scam there is VERY VERY few things that could stop Kim from getting to tons monthly by mid year.
Yes S*$T happens but we are not talking about the possibility of a disaster.
And a disaster is about the only thing that could stop it.
IF they have a customer ready to buy, nothing besides an act of god could cause it to not be filled.
