singapore is a rather tightly controlled city-state....the running joke is: it's ruled by father, son & holy goh (lee kuang yew, his son & premier goh)

they have all sorts of rules like: chewing gums are prohibited,
you'll be fined caught farting in public (an attempt of scatological humor here!!)..you know why beans are not selling well in singapore...

i also heard that college-educated women in singapore have problems finding equally-educated singapore men...it's not considered "proper" for a singapore woman to marry a man who is not as educated as she is...

on a separate note, i heard on a chinese radio station the other day that one of the medical schools in hong kong suspects that sars possibly originates from those endangered species that were consumed in guan dong...
