Yeah, in hindsight your timing could've been better. But you may not feel the pain for long on this one.
I actually like Cramer, although I've only seldom followed his picks. I tend to look for macro trends and invest in ETFs with tailwinds and only a few individual stocks. I bought Regeneron after doing due diligence after his recommendation and am doing very well with that (well - its been consolidating for a while now, but still up big).
I first learned of AMBA from Brian Bolan of Zacks Home Run service. I had lost a lot of money from his predecessor there, started to make some back and did better with Brian Bolan. But I really didn't have a large enough portfolio to invest in up to 30-40 stocks and was mostly lousy at picking just a few of his picks for myself.
But I actually ended up making back most of my losses on BBs recommendations on AMBA and PRFT after I let my subscription run out. And I think Brian Bolan still has a hot hand. He also recommended Tesla, which I thought that was too risky at the time, and I missed out big time.
But now I have (happily) turned to outperforming ETFs with just a few stocks - top ones in order of holdings - NNVC, UNP and AMBA.
By far I have the most in NNVC (recommended by John Mauldin and Patrick Cox). I really like the the company and its anti-viral technology. I think NNVC has everything lined up for the next 2 years to make a run with many milestones that could make good SP catalysts and a very promising, lower risk technology than most Biotechs. I post on the NNVC board on this site along with many other knowledgeable folks. Check it out if you are interested. It may be poised for a jump soon.
UNP because it is the highest quality railroad and I can't find an ETF I like for railroads (boring but solid).
AMBA because it is a very high growth small tech with a big lead in technology in a high growth segment of a growing industry and good financials.
In the end, I have gotten my ideas from many sources, but I always do thorough due diligence now before taking anyone's recommendation - although I am still making some of my own timing mistakes.
