Chris Christie's Bridgegate is today's Richard Nixon's Watergate - there was no need for Christie to take revenge on Fort Lee's mayor for non-support as he was way ahead in all and everyone agreed he would win by a comfortable margin - having a relatively unknown opponent helped. But like Nixon, Christie is vindictive and he can't help himself.
