Hey stonsetr, enjoying the fishing interlude... Bout all I ever go fishing for is trout, the noblest of fish. Agree beer is mandatory, but if you really want to focus on the water, a little herbal essence takes it to a new high, ha ha...

Stone flies at the bottom in the cold water is the standard fly in the winter, but if you hit an open stream when it's a little warmer in the winter, little black midges can produce surprising action. The group I go with aren't purists and the guy with the can of worms usually beats us all, lol... I can see AD's squid at the bottom working well.

A couple times I've hit a feeding frenzy just before a storm in early summer and that was amazing. Talking 20 trout in an hour on dry flies. As fast as you could reel em in. Though the best times I've had were evening fireworks on dry flies. I'm not to scientific about fly fishing, but once in a while I pick a pattern that matches a hatch. But you'll see me a spin rod working dem holes with golden phoebee on a sunny day just as much. There you get that angry reponse, a hit like no other.

Well this was back in the day before I got married and have small kids to entertain now, lol. Only get my line wet once or twice a year now in the few spots you can go trout fishing on long island, ny. The best spot you actually have to pay to fish, but you get your own 50 yards of water and there are 20 plus inchers in there. I'll take.

Have a nice year year and good luck fishin for dem trout and hot stocks. Come back for gardening talk an a couple of months, lol...
