It's probably hard to understand the back bone of the da Vinci, unless you see it live and can take a really close look at the control tower. It is one giant computer driven buy software. Not only from a performance aspect but from a check and balance standpoint. Software is what allows the robot the ability to scale down the movements to a 5 mm instrument, along with many other features.
