I have a margin account. I can buy GE on margin, that is I borrow some percentage of the purchase price from my broker and the rest is cash from my account balance. That is purchasing a stock on margin to me.

I can not do that with my broker on stocks that are less than $5 or on the OTCBB. I can margin other stocks in my account, i.e. borrow money against those stocks that are marginable and use that cash to buy OTCBB stocks.


There are brokers that have different rules. Mine is TDA.
