I imagine there must be some choices that server owners can deploy besides x86. Right ? Are these choices gaining ? or receding ? This is not a challenge or argumentation. Just a question.

And for the past 30 years, have there not been always alternatives to x86 servers ? I am sure the answer is yes. Server companies rise and fall. Intel is not immune. However, will an economically rational server owner ditch x86 if the work load did not dictate it ?

So, what workload dictates non x86 ? And why is it not already using alternatives to x86, since they exist, and have existed for 30 years ?
