I know people who installed solar in 2008/9 and people said they'd never recoup their installation costs through energy savings. Guess what: 5/6 years later they're left looking like geniuses, especially with the net energy savings credits on their bills (I think that's the right phrase).

Solar is expensive, but its not a dead money investment.
