Yes, and much better if the family devotes its surpluses to education. I am the 4th generation of an immigrant family from eastern europe. The first generation was so poor, that during the great depression, my grandfather was given over to adoption through our religious institution (not uncommon during the depression.)
Each generation since has built upon the educational successes of the prior. Oddly enough, being put up for adoption was probably the best thing that ever happened to my grandfather. If he had stayed on the streets in the Bowery of NY, I probably wouldn't be here.
