DNA brand specialist expands to Japan

Japanese printing group Nissha has reached an agreement with Applied DNA Sciences (APDN) to expand the brand security specialist's activities in Japan.

Nissha will co-market APDN’s DNA-based security printing for use on moulded plastics, such as those used in mobile phones, laptop computers and other electronic goods. The two companies have worked together to develop new applications for the DNA marker technology, including in-mould decoration (IMD), a printing technology that allows images to be attached to 3D plastics.

James Hayward, president and chief executive of APDN, says, “We have already begun supplying Nissha with our DNA Authentication Markers. It extends our reach into Japan and Asia, where the need to verify authentic products, particularly in the mobile phone, computer and pharmaceutical space is highest.”

APDN says that users can place its botanical DNA marker on products and then verify them with a high degree of reliability and accuracy in the lab. The company claims it cannot be copied and provides a forensic chain of evidence that can be used in court cases.

Takao Hashimoto, Executive Vice President & CTO, Nissha, says, “We believe the application of DNA technology is consistent with our demand to providing products and services with the latest technology to meet the global trends, and delivering customer satisfaction. Nissha wishes to be, and continues to be a company that keeps growing forward into the future.”
