*DJ Congressional Panel Launches HealthSouth Investigation

WASHINGTON, Apr 22, 2003 (AFX-Europe via COMTEX) -- Records and documents related to accounting firm Ernst & Young's audits of troubled healthcare group HealthSouth Corp are being sought by the House Energy and Commerce Committee as part of its probe into HealthSouth's accounting practices.
The committee has sent out two letters today -- that have been released to the media -- to HealthSouth's acting chairman Joel Gordon and Ernst & Young chairman James Turley requesting a series of records on documents.
The letters state that the committee is "concerned about the role of HealthSouth's outside auditor, Ernst & Young, in reviewing and preparing the company's quarterly and annual financial statements and the auditing of its financial records."
