I found this patent application which mentions MANF and beta-cell disorders (seems to be in the context of diabetes). Can anyone here shed some light on this one? Looks very interesting...

A couple of the invention claims that caught my attention were:

8. A method of treating or delaying the onset of a pancreatic ß-cell disorder in a subject comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a soluble
mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) comprising a sequence that is at least 80% identical to SEQ ID NO: 2 or apomorphine.

9. A method of reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress in a pancreatic B-cell, the method comprising contacting the pancreatic ß-cell with an effective amount of a soluble mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) comprising a sequence that is at least 80% identical to SEQ ID NO: 2 or apomorphine.
