Practical issues aside I truly do believe anonymity is what gives many the license to act in a way they wouldn't dream of normally.
I agree with that statement 100%.
I have had people post/say things to me on the internet that if it were said in person, they would find themselves on their ass with a bloody nose or a black eye.
That still does not remove my feelings that internet posters should be anonymous. In fact, it magnifies it.
Anonymity allows one to post her/his opinions without repercussions, other than their "online reputations", which is easily changed by changing handles.
