Jar, ""Purge the huge sports emphasis, latchkey enabling after-school care, political correctness training, fundraising, silly field trips, class parties""
I live in a small community. Youth sports is part of my community. My guess is we are in a semantics situation here but if we did away with sports here where I live I feel it would be detrimental to the community. Through sports my youngest has gotten to be friends with many other children and my wife and I have become aquainted with many parents. I believe that it is this interaction that makes a healthier enviroment for children. Field trips and parties are a further part of this interaction. Should children be forced to sit at a desk all day every day with no fun being interjected? They are children after all. My 9 year old is a cheerleader for the football team, plays on the year older basketball team, is on the 9-12 year old softball team and has gymnastics once a week as well as Brownies. I can hardly imagine how hurt she would be if some draconian adminstrator took this away from her childhood.
