SYK/MAKO—Agreed [that there is no technical synergy], but there is clearly marketing synergy.

Some, but not that much, IMO. SYK’s knees are marketed almost exclusively to individual orthopedists, while the MAKO system is marketed largely to hospitals and clinics. From MAKO’s 10-K (http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1411861/000089710113000266/mako130784_10k.htm ):
