Apple claimed they doubled performance (probably a combination of clock and ipc) at similar battery life and Swift ipc was already high with a low clock speed. The usable registers in ARM64 doubled to 32 so I could believe Apple designed a Silvermont class chip out of all the ARMy. Samsung's 28nm gate-first is also a competent process in performance/power. However A7 is not a merchant chip so does it really matter if Apple is the IBM Power of the mobile world .
